Majors

Albright’s ADP curriculum features an accelerated seminar format with intense use of the Internet as well as additional computer technology. Interaction between students is emphasized and much of this collaboration involves applied group activities.

While traditional classes meet 40-44 hours per semester, Albright’s ADP courses meet for four hours per evening for five to seven weeks. Remaining class time is fulfilled by a combination of Internet usage and independent study.

Through a special partnership with Reading Area Community College, Delaware County Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Montgomery County Community College, Northampton Community College, and Warren County Community College, most associate degrees (A.A. or A.S.) from these colleges transfer fully to Albright ADP (and acceptance is automatic if all Albright transfer admissions criteria are met.) Albright College offers a $2,500-3,200 Partner Scholarship based on GPA to graduates of these colleges. (Any applicant with an Associates Degree is eligible for a $2,500 scholarship.)

    Cool Things to Do with Netsh

    The Netsh command is a powerful command-line tool for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. Netsh is available in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit and is standard in Windows 2003 and XP. Netsh lets you change almost any network configuration setting as well as document network configurations. You can use the command in a batch file or from its own command shell. Netsh has a useful Help system that you can access by adding /? to almost any of its subcommands. Here are 10 cool things that you can use Netsh to do.

    10. Show TCP/IP settings The command

    shows the system s current TCP/IP configuration settings. You can see whether the system is using DHCP or static addressing as well as view the system s current IP address, subnet mask, gateway address, and DNS servers.

    9. Change network configuration Netsh can change the current network configuration. The command

    sets the IP address of the system configuration Local Area Connection to 192.168.0.10, the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, and the gateway address to 192.168.0.254. This use of Netsh comes in handy for laptops that must switch between static and dynamic addressed networks.

    8. Use a dynamic DHCP assigned address The command

    sets the IP address of the Local Area Connection system configuration to use DHCP addressing.

    7. Change a DNS server address When you change the system s IP address type, you almost always have to change the DNS server s address as well. The command

    configures the Local Area Connection to use a DNS server whose address is 192.168.0.2.

    6. Dynamically assign the DNS server address When you switch to dynamic DHCP addressing, you typically also want the DNS server address to be assigned dynamically. The command

    sets the Local Area Connection interface to use a DHCP-assigned DNS address.

    5. Configure a WINS server Netsh also lets you configure WINS servers. The following command configures a system s Local Area Connection interface to use a WINS server that has the IP address 192.168.100.3.

    4. Work with other interfaces Netsh works with DHCP, Internet Authentication Service (IAS), and RAS interfaces as well as the local network interface. The command

    dumps the local DHCP server s configuration to the dhcpcfg.dat file. You can use this file in conjunction with Netsh to recreate the DHCP server.

    3. Work with remote systems One of Netsh s best hidden features is its ability to work with remote systems. The command

    sets the current computer to a different system on the network.

    2. Save the current configuration The Interface Dump subcommand saves your current network configuration and generates a script that you can use to regenerate the configuration. The command

    redirects the Dump command to the mycfg.dat file.

    1. Restore network configuration The Netsh Exec command runs a Netsh script file. The command

    restores to your system the network configuration data that the preceding sample command saved.

Copy netsh.bat to C:\ (for example) on all of the nodes that need the change ( you can copy netsh.bat across your LAN via another batch file ). 3. With another batch file, schedule an AT job on each node that needs the change: this at job should run c:\netsh.bat ( that has already been copied to each node that needs the change ).     Would anyone know why I am getting the following error with #3, which is the remote command. Access is denied” The result is identical when I try “netsh -r virtual2000” I have tried physical servers as well, but I get the same result. I tried to google the error, but I don’t see anything. The netsh interface works fine until you get to the “set IP address” portion”. At that point, the available commands are blank.

    Entry Requirements

    What you should know

    Once you complete this programme you will be able to apply knowledge, skills and relevant communication skills for application in writing and verbal communication in practice of personnel management. Such skills include motivation, group dynamics, leadership skills and information systems as applicable in the management of human resources and in the presentation of information in activities relevant to human resource management.

    What subjects will I be taking?

    First Year

    First Semester N4

    Personnel Management gives the student a good background of the personnel functions, starting with recruitment and selection right through to performance appraisal, remuneration, job evaluation, etc. – to the point where the employment contract ends. It also deals with issues such as motivation, leadership, management and communication.

    Studies the different disciplines of communication, motivation and self-image as tools in the organisation. Practical activities are included, especially the writing of business communication documents. This subject also studies the theory behind advertising, the communication tool for marketing, with emphasis on the role it plays in marketing strategies of an organisation.

    Provides students with skills to perform basic computer functions. The subject field covers Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and basic Internet and Email functionality.

    Entrepreneurship & Business Management

    Entrepreneurship and Business Management studies the different aspects of starting your own business. It provides basic knowledge of how to draw up a business plan and all the necessary aspects needed for a business plan.

    Second Semester N5

    Personnel Management gives the student a good background of the personnel functions, starting with recruitment and selection right through to performance appraisal, remuneration, job evaluation, etc. – to the point where the employment contract ends. It also deals with issues such as motivation, leadership, management and communication.

    Without a well-trained staff, an organisation will certainly under perform. Personnel Training moulds the student with a sound background on training adults in the workplace as well as the necessary training and facilitation skills. It also provides a framework for assessing training needs.

    Provides students with skills to perform basic computer functions. The subject field covers Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and basic Internet and Email functionality.

    Labour Relations focuses on monitoring good relationships at the workplace by keeping it free from conflict and dispute through sound communication and providing a framework/system for dealing with various issues. The subject initially gives the student a background of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the Labour Relations Act, while the latter part of the subject deals with trade union issues as well as the problematic areas of disciplinary hearings, disputes, strikes and negotiations.
