Chattel mortgages are loan arrangements that involve the use of movable personal property as the security for the loan, rather than the more common approach of using the actual real estate to secure it. In choosing to use movable property. the borrower allows the lender to exercise a lien against the asset or assets that will remain in effect for the duration of the loan. Once the mortgage is repaid in full, the borrower reassumes full control of the chattel.

A key factor in the structure for a chattel mortgage is that the assets held as security cannot be permanently tied to any land holdings owned by the borrower. This means that such assets as buildings, or even land that does not currently support any type of building structure, cannot be used as the collateral or chattel for the financial arrangement. All assets that are used as security must be considered movable or non permanent in nature.

Loans created using this model are very common in the business world. Corporations may choose to use this type of loan as a means of purchasing new properties, while using assets such as operational equipment, vehicles that are owned in full by the company, or other tangible items that are not permanently attached to land. This allows the corporation to work with the acquired fixed property as it sees fit, since the property does not have any type of lien imposed on the asset.

Part of the advantage to the lender is that the movable property used as security on a chattel mortgage can be seized and sold with relative ease. This can often speed up the process of settling the debt in the event of a default by the borrower, as well as allowing the lender to quickly recover from the failure of the business deal and not incur a great deal of further expense related to recovery efforts. Often, movable property will realize enough return to cover the outstanding indebtedness, including both the balance remaining on the mortgage and any fees and charges incurred during the foreclosure process.

4) With respect, you are not answering my question. I am fully aware that chattel mortgages usually taken out by businesses, but believe they are only incorporated businesses. If any experience of a sole trader or partnership business securing funding by this method please tell me, as a funder, how this can be achieved and in particular, how a mortgage can be registered.

I think that if you have a small business you might want to look at a home equity line of credit on your home which would offer half of that rate. Many of these equity lines start at 3.5 percent with excellent credit.

Of course, the downside is that you are putting a lien against your home, but if this is a loan that you can pay back quickly it might be worth it to you. There are many sites that will offer a loan calculator in order for you to see the estimated payments before you apply.

The mortgage calculators can also offer payoff date information to really get you motivated to pay off that loan. I think that that is what I would do instead of getting a chattel mortgage.

2) My understanding is that a chattel mortgage by definition is taken out by a business or business entity. It is understandable to use a chattel mortgage because businesses usually have a lot of assets outside of their real estate holdings and to tap into this instead of just asking for a regular loan would probably offer the business a lower interest rate because this type of loan is secured and less risky for the bank.

    Charles Moore received a grant for 550 acres along the Tyger River by King George III. He later received additional grants bringing his total acreage to about 3,000 (1 ).

  • 1765 Charles Moore built a house on the property.

    Charles and his wife Mary raised their ten children on the plantation.

  • 1767 Margaret Kathryn Moore (Kate). the first child of Charles and Mary Moore, married General Andrew Barry at the age of 15. During the Revolutionary War Kate helped her husband by spying on Tory troops, chasing them away from her home, and gathering men to help her husband fight. She was considered quite a heroine.

    Kenny Rogers

    “Kenny Rogers gambled with plastic surgery – and lost!” says Dr. Youn.

    “I’m not happy about it,” the country crooner told People magazine in 2006 of a botched eyelid lift. “It drives me crazy.”

    With his tight eyelids, he no longer looks like the scruffy, masculine man we knew in the 70’s, says Dr. Youn.

    Joan Rivers

    Joan Rivers admits to having had lots of plastic surgery, including a facelift, neck lift, and eyelid surgery – and she makes no apologies. Some might say her “work” has been overdone, but who cares?

    “She’s A Piece of Work (in a good way),” Dr. Youn says.

    Donatella Versace

    The first thing one notices about Donatella Versace is her overly plump upper lip. Natural lower lips tend to be about 50 percent larger than the upper lip. But in Versace’s case, the proportions are reversed, yielding what Dr. Youn calls a “trout pout.”

    In addition, the designer’s skin looks waxy, possibly the result of multiple laser treatments.

    Michael Jackson

    A whittled-down nose, lightened skin, an unnatural cleft in the chin, a chin implant, lip augmentation, and God knows what else – Michael Jackson was a classic case of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), Dr. Youn says.

    BDD is a psychiatric condition that makes it impossible to see oneself as others do. This unrealistic view causes BDD sufferers to undergo multiple plastic surgeries in a misguided attempt to correct a defect – one that wasn’t there to begin with, according to Dr. Youn.

    Jocelyn Wildenstein

    “Jocelyn Wildenstein is a poster child for plastic surgery gone wrong,” says Dr. Young.

    The “Lion Woman of New York” reportedly underwent dozens of plastic surgeries – all in a misguided attempt to win back her husband.

    Dr. Youn thinks she might have undergone a brow lift, facelift, lip plumping injections, chin augmentation, fat grafting and/or cheek implants, upper and lower eyelid surgery, and canthopexy, a procedure that elevates the eyes to give them a catlike appearance.

    Heidi Montag

    What more can be said about Heidi Montag?

    “She underwent 10 cosmetic surgeries in one day. and now she looks less like a person and more like a Barbie doll,” says Dr. Youn.

    “In my opinion, none of these ten plastic surgeries have benefited her except in giving her more publicity and more reasons to do more surgery,” says Youn.

    The reality star admitted to having a mini brow lift, botox in her forehead, a nose job revision, fat injections in her cheeks, a chin reduction, neck liposuction, ears pinned back, second breast augmentation, liposuction on waist, hips and inner thighs, and a buttock augmentation.

    “This troubled fame addict needs a shrink, not a plastic surgeon!” says Youn.

    Montag herself has since called the surgeries a mistake.

    “People have fewer scars from car accidents than I have on my body,” she told Life Style Weekly.

    Jennifer Grey

    “Jennifer Grey is a good example of how a nose job (rhinoplasty) can dramatically alter one’s appearance,” says Dr. Youn. “The removal of the bump (dorsal hump) on Grey’s nose made her look very different from the ‘Baby’ character she played in ‘Dirty Dancing.'”

    That nose was one of Grey’s defining features (like Julia Roberts’s lips, Cindy Crawford’s mole, and David Letterman’s gapped teeth).

    While her altered appearance didn’t stop Grey from winning “Dancing with The Stars,” it might have gotten in the way of movie roles.

    “I personally think she looks better since it’s just a tad smaller,” says Dr. Youn. “But the problem is that she doesn’t look like she used to.”

    Mickey Rourke

    Mickey Rourke appears to have undergone a facelift and upper eyelid lift, as well as hair transplants, according to Dr. Youn.

    A badly done facelift can cost a man his sideburns, and Dr. Youn says this seems to have happened with Rourke.

    “The unnatural curve between his ear and cheek and his now-attached earlobe are also telltale signs of a facelift,” he says.

    Carrot Top

    These days, “Carrot Top is looking more and more like a muscle-bound cartoon character,” says Dr. Youn.

    He seems to have undergone quite a few changes over the years, Dr. Youn says, yielding an excessively arched brow and a smooth face, possibly the result of laser treatments or chemical peels.

    “At least it appears he’s left his eyelids alone,” Youn says, “although maybe they’re next.”

    Priscilla Presley

    What if Elvis could see Priscilla now? Dr. Youn says he might be “All Shook Up.”

    A few years ago, says Dr. Youn, Priscilla Presley revealed that she got silicone injections in her cheeks – by a phony doctor. That may explain her puffy face – but not her face’s waxy look. Dr. Youn says the latter might have been caused by a combination of repeated laser treatments and Botox.

    MESSENGER images are the first direct photos of the planet in more than 30 years (from 1975 to 2008), and will provide detailed information about all of the planet’s surface by the time the mission is over, in the mid-2010’s.

    The Mariner 10 spacecraft made three flybys of Mercury, in March and September of 1974, and again in March of 1975, but because of the peculiar rotation of Mercury and the time between successive flybys (exactly two Mercurian years), the same side of Mercury was facing the Sun each time Mariner 10 flew by, even though Mercury turns every part of its surface to the Sun every 176 days.

    Mercury’s surface is covered with large impact craters, but not nearly as many as seen on the far side of the Moon. This suggests that during the earliest part of the period of heavy bombardment in the inner Solar System, 4.3 to 4.5 billion years ago, the planet was too warm for its surface to maintain crater structures, or was so geologically active that volcanism erased all evidence of that early bombardment. But by the time, 4.0 to 4.2 billion years ago, that impacts were less frequent, the surface was strong enough to maintain crater walls, and volcanism had decreased to the point where it had little effect on the craters’ structure. Here and there lava flows are still visible between the craters, as well as large scarps (called rupes) presumably caused by shrinking of the planet’s surface as it cooled. But unlike our Moon, there is little evidence of volcanic activity after the end of the era of heavy bombardment, as there are no large smooth plains similar to the lunar maria, which are more or less devoid of craters. (Note added Dec 2014: Although Mercury does not have evidence of the very extensive volcanism that caused the lunar maria, MESSENGER spacecraft studies have shown that considerable vulcanism occurred for some time after the end of the period of heavy bombardment; it is just not as obvious as on the Moon or, for that matter, Mars.)

    The name of the Basin refers to its position on Mercury. As discussed in The Rotation of Mercury, Mercury has a very peculiar rotation, which is locked to the Sun in such a way that every other orbit one side or the exactly opposite side of Mercury faces the Sun. At perihelion the Caloris Basin or the chaotic area exactly opposite its position on the Mercurian globe (see the image below) are facing the Sun, and are heated to more than 800 Fahrenheit degrees; whereas at aphelion areas exactly a quarter-way around the planet face the Sun, and are only heated to a little less than 600 Fahrenheit degrees.

    Chattel mortgages are loan arrangements that involve the use of movable personal property as the security for the loan, rather than the more common approach of using the actual real estate to secure it. In choosing to use movable property. the borrower allows the lender to exercise a lien against the asset or assets that will remain in effect for the duration of the loan. Once the mortgage is repaid in full, the borrower reassumes full control of the chattel.

    A key factor in the structure for a chattel mortgage is that the assets held as security cannot be permanently tied to any land holdings owned by the borrower. This means that such assets as buildings, or even land that does not currently support any type of building structure, cannot be used as the collateral or chattel for the financial arrangement. All assets that are used as security must be considered movable or non permanent in nature.

    Loans created using this model are very common in the business world. Corporations may choose to use this type of loan as a means of purchasing new properties, while using assets such as operational equipment, vehicles that are owned in full by the company, or other tangible items that are not permanently attached to land. This allows the corporation to work with the acquired fixed property as it sees fit, since the property does not have any type of lien imposed on the asset.

    Part of the advantage to the lender is that the movable property used as security on a chattel mortgage can be seized and sold with relative ease. This can often speed up the process of settling the debt in the event of a default by the borrower, as well as allowing the lender to quickly recover from the failure of the business deal and not incur a great deal of further expense related to recovery efforts. Often, movable property will realize enough return to cover the outstanding indebtedness, including both the balance remaining on the mortgage and any fees and charges incurred during the foreclosure process.

But however, if not registered then a court order is a condition precedent for attachment and execution of mortgagor’s properties by the lender!

    4) With respect, you are not answering my question. I am fully aware that chattel mortgages usually taken out by businesses, but believe they are only incorporated businesses. If any experience of a sole trader or partnership business securing funding by this method please tell me, as a funder, how this can be achieved and in particular, how a mortgage can be registered.

    I think that if you have a small business you might want to look at a home equity line of credit on your home which would offer half of that rate. Many of these equity lines start at 3.5 percent with excellent credit.

    Of course, the downside is that you are putting a lien against your home, but if this is a loan that you can pay back quickly it might be worth it to you. There are many sites that will offer a loan calculator in order for you to see the estimated payments before you apply.

    The mortgage calculators can also offer payoff date information to really get you motivated to pay off that loan. I think that that is what I would do instead of getting a chattel mortgage.

    2) My understanding is that a chattel mortgage by definition is taken out by a business or business entity. It is understandable to use a chattel mortgage because businesses usually have a lot of assets outside of their real estate holdings and to tap into this instead of just asking for a regular loan would probably offer the business a lower interest rate because this type of loan is secured and less risky for the bank.
